Ball Valves

Ball Valves are quarter turn — straight through valves, got its name from the ball that rotates to open & close the valve. Ball valves are widely used in applications where tight shut off is required. V-TORK manufactures Ball valves of 5 different types which are able to transfer gases, Liquids & air. The Main advantages are the superior ease of operation, Low purchase & maintenance cost, rugged construction and longer service life.

Ball Valve Manufacturers

The ball valve is a shut-off valve that controls, regulates, or directs the liquid flow by closing, opening, or obstructing the passageways of pipelines. It distributes and deviates the direction of medium flow in industrial pipelines. The ball valve manufacturing industry is expected to grow to USD 14.7 billion by 2025. V-Tork Ball valve manufacturers are key players in the manufacturing of valves with various engineered designs and models based on the industry requirements.

Characteristics of ball valves

  • Ball valve manufacturers design valves as full ports and reduced ports with relatively small flow resistance coefficients.
  • It has smooth channels for conveying liquids with a 90-degree handle rotation. It is easy for quick full-turn opening and full-off closing.
  • As the majority of valve seals and soft seals are made up of polytetrafluoroethylene and other flexible materials subjected to the applications, it offers good sealability. Even in dirty media, it ensures perfect sealing.
  • As the ball materials used have self-lubricating properties, the friction and wear with the sphere are very small, thus enhancing longer shelf life.

Features of ball valve designs

Ball valve manufacturers design valves by keeping these aspects in mind.

  • simple in structure and operation
  • Reliable and non-corrosive.
  • Lightweight & small installation size
  • Small driving torque
  • Low material consumption
  • Nominal passage range and maintenance
  • Small nominal diameter

The working mechanism of ball valves

A ball valve is a one-way valve that controls the flow of liquid or gas by using a hollow, perforated, pivoted ball. To start the flow or to block the flow, the ball and the bore inside rotates to 90 degrees angle. A shaft connects the ball placed on two seats and the control system. When the cross-section of the bore is perpendicular to the area of the flow, the fluid passage is blocked. The fluid flow rate depends on the bore area. It can be operated manually using handles or levers or by automatic operators. Hydraulic, pneumatic and electric valves can be operated under automated systems. The main work of ball valve manufacturers is to manufacture a compact design that suits the customer requirements by complying with the relevant standards which are applicable for the corresponding segments.

Parts of ball valves

The basic components of ball valves are as follows

Valve housing

The main part of the valve is the valve body. All internal components are fixed in the body made up of rigid, hard metal like carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex materials, It supports the external control mechanism for proper function.

Rotary ball

A solid or hollow ball with a center bore is mostly found in ball valves. The ball’s direction is controlled by the stem. A solid ball has a constant opening diameter for the smooth flow of liquids at constant velocity. The larger spaces create turbulence and high velocities. As compared to solid balls, hollow balls are economical, lightweight, and effective in operation.

Shaft

A stem or shaft connects the ball to an external control mechanism. It can be operated manually or automatically through levels. The shaft and the bonnet are connected with O-rings and packing rings for ideal sealing effects.

Seat

The valve seats are discs that seal the ball and its body. The upstream and downstream seats are in opposite directions on the inlet and discharge sides.

Actuator

Actuators run between the stem and seals. Based on the operation, Ball valve manufacturers design the control actuators mechanism. The different designs include handwheels, motors, levers, solenoids, pneumatic operators, and hydraulic arms.

Trim

Different valve parts together create trim. Ball, sleeves, seat, and stem together perform basic motions and improve the functionality of the machine.

Advantages of ball valves in the industry

  • Ease in operation
  • Low purchase & maintenance cost
  • Rugged construction
  • Longer service life
  • Compact
  • Tight sealing with low torque
  • Quick quarter-turn/ shut off speeds
  • High pressure, high volume, and high-temperature durability
  • Versatile for industrial applications

Types of ball valves manufactured by V-Tork

As a ball valve manufacturer, V-Tork is specialized in manufacturing two categories of ball valves as follows,

Screwed end ball valves

Screwed end ball valves are known for stress tolerance, surface hardness, and corrosion resistance. V-Tork ball valve manufacturers offer valves in varied sizes and specifications as per the requirements of the clients. It is economical, has low torque with actuator pad arrangement, and has a long working life with full port or reduced port.

Floating ball valves

In floating ball valves, the ball is suspended inside the valve and free to move in the lateral directions in a closed position. The ball in the floating valves is sandwiched between two seats. Floating valves are simplest in design and suitable for liquid and gases operation under low to moderate pressures.

Maintenance of ball valves

  • The ball valves should be cleaned and repaired once a year.
  • It should at least be operated once a month to prevent the ball from getting stuck.
  • The ball valve should be fully closed or fully opened.
  • The hole in the ball should be cleaned frequently, for the smooth running of the valves. If it is exposed to high heat elements, it may be corroded.
  • Schedule the cleaning process for better maintenance. Connect with Industrial Valves Manufacturers for a better maintenance process.
  • Before initiating the maintenance of the valve, Relieve the system pressure.
  • For the cleaning process, push the ball out with careful procedures. Replace the valve seats and seals by removing the endplates.
  • Use only approved lubrication on the seals. Check the valve body, accessories, flanges, sealing points, actuators for leakages.
  • Ball valve manufacturers usually drain the inner cavity of the ball valve and then check for leakage.
  • For valves not operated for a long time, inject cleaning liquid to fix all the problems caused by clogs or any dust, dirt.
